Navigating roadways after Hurricane Katrina was hazardous. Traffic signals were not working turning most intersections with non-working signals into "all-way" stops. When road signs are destroyed and traffic lights don't work, creative solutions abound such as this one on Hwy 90. FEMA has specific recommendations for the use of roadways during hurricane cleanup periods.

A 30 ft. storm surge came ashore wiping out 90% of buildings along the Biloxi-Gulfport coastline. Boats floated ashore and buildings were lifted off their foundations. Debris from floods is caused by structural inundation and high-velocity water flow.
