During this period, a few homeowners were living in RV's and tents. Residents of Waveland were frustrated at the number of sightseers cruising the area. Since the vegetation was shredded and trees defolitated, dust settled like a grey blanket over the what remained of the town. The rust-colored pine trees added a somber note to the harsh landscape.
